From Farm to Fritter
A tropical specialty and staple on the menu at The Deck, conch fritters have long been synonymous with the islands but did you know that Provo is home to the world’s first and only commercial conch farm? This open-to-the-public enclave has been cultivating the prized Caribbean Queen Conch for 29 years. A 30-minute tour covers the science and technology behind the farm’s success. A great excursion for kids, this hands-on gem spanning 10 oceanfront acres, plus 65 acres of sub-sea pasture, is a win-win for islanders, providing jobs, economic growth and a low-cost/high-protein food while protecting wild conch stocks from exploitation.
