When it comes to souvenir shopping, here's a spirited suggestion: Bambarra Rum, the Turks & Caicos Islands' very own line of blended rums. Two of our favorites are the smooth, 8-year-old Reserve rum with notes of vanilla, oak, cinnamon and nutmeg, and its 15-year-old counterpart, the limited edition Trouvadore Finest Select, a well-rounded sipping rum blended from some of the Caribbean's oldest rum stocks. (For history buffs, we should note that the latter takes its name from the storied Trouvadore, the Spanish slave ship that was wrecked on the shores of East Caicos in 1841.) For the teetotalers on your souvenir shopping list, there's also a boatload of Bambarra-branded condiments, ranging from West Indian Mustard Hot Sauce and classic Rum Cake to jerk rubs, jellies and jams. Find them all at FOTTAC in the Regent Plaza on Grace Bay. Whether you're sipping it or saving it for later, this is one spirited reminder of time well spent in the Turks & Caicos Islands.
